The Early Days of Audio Visual Solutions in Las Vegas

Long before LED walls, immersive projection mapping, and interactive digital experiences became standard event technology, audiovisual production looked very different.

In the early 1980s, convention AV often meant:

That’s where TST founder Rick Pollock began building the foundation for what would eventually become one of Las Vegas’ most respected audiovisual production companies.

In 1982, Rick started his career at GES Exposition Services, a nationwide convention services contractor based in Las Vegas. He managed the AV Operations department, supporting convention business across a wide variety of event formats and exhibit environments.

At the time, many companies viewed AV as a secondary event component rather than a strategic investment.

Rick saw the future differently.

He recognized early that audiovisual technology would eventually become central to how exhibitors communicated, how brands engaged audiences, and how live events created impact. As trade shows and corporate events evolved, companies that failed to invest in strong AV capabilities would struggle to remain competitive.

That insight helped shape the future of TST.

Building a Company Focused on Service

In 1995, Rick left GES to lead the AV division for Heritage Display, where he continued developing expertise in trade show production and exhibit support.

A year later, he launched his own company.

In 1996, Rick and his wife founded Trade Show Technical by purchasing Heritage Display’s AV equipment and assets and hiring the company’s employees. The original team consisted of just five people operating out of the basement of the Sands Expo and Convention Centre.

The early days were challenging.

Trade show production is highly competitive, and in the beginning there was no guarantee where the next project would come from. But the company steadily grew because of a simple philosophy: Do the job right. Take care of the client. Be dependable under pressure.

That reputation quickly spread throughout the Las Vegas convention industry.
