Event Planner Password Security

Event Planner Password Security

Weak password security may be putting you and your clients at risk. Check out these event planner password security tips!

Event planners take note: weak password security may be putting you and your clients at risk. Here, I’ll highlight event planner password security measures you can take to reduce risk to yourself and to the clients you serve.

Heightened Security Measures

A key reason to use a password manager vs. storing passwords in your browser is that most browsers don’t encrypt your passwords. While Firefox does encrypt passwords and offers a master password, it lacks password generation and form fill factors (e.g., capture of address and credit card information).

Password managers like LastPass or RoboForm include AES-256-bit encryption algorithms to ensure complete security in the cloud. When you create an account with a strong master password, you generate a unique encryption key. Because data is encrypted and decrypted at the device level, your master password, along with the keys used to encrypt and decrypt data, is never sent to the password manager’s servers. Data stored in your vault is kept secret, even from the password manager. The result is the best possible event planner password security.

Simple, Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication further optimizes event planner password security by requiring a second login step before authorizing access to your vault. It’s a method of confirming users’ claimed identities through a combination of two of these factors: (1) something a user knows (e.g., a password or a PIN), (2) something a user is (e.g., fingerprint or voice recognition), or (3) something a user has (e.g., a YubiKey).

A YubiKey is an easy-to-use physical USB device that supports one-time passwords, public-key encryption, and authentication. A YubiKey defends against phishing, which is the primary method for stealing credentials from employees, vendors, partners, and customers.

Single Sign-On (One-Click Access)

Password managers like LastPass and RoboForm give employees a single sign-on (one-click access) for cloud-based apps and web login. Once you’re logged into the password manager, you can automatically access your apps. Every login lives side by side in one place for easy access. Employees only need to remember one password to access all their apps, and LastPass connects employees everywhere from their device of choice.

Event Planner Password Security Advantages

When you and your clients both use a password manager, you can gain the following benefits:

  • Give employees their own secure password vault for storing every app and web login they use.
  • Make password sharing convenient for employees while securing access to corporate data, enabling employees to access data, apps, and sites while maintaining zero-knowledge security.
  • Organize and control passwords and enable and disable individual permissions and access.
  • Gain insight into employee password behavior from the admin dashboard to promote password best practices throughout the organization.

Gain Peace of Mind with Added Security

Today, event planner password security and advanced phishing protection are required to reduce security risks and stop account takeovers. Every password is an entryway to your business – and to your clients’ businesses. It’s time to keep your organization – and your clients’ data – secure by using a password manager and raising the standard of security across the board.
